Mission statement

The mission of The Flame is to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28.19-20) by making Christlike disciples.

As a global community of faith, we believe we are commissioned to take the Good News of life in Jesus Christ to people everywhere and to spread the message of scriptural holiness (Christlike living) –– in other words, to promote what John Wesley called “inward and outward holiness,” holiness of heart and life, a spiritual experience leading to a daily walk with Christ that makes life right.

It is this line of teaching, essentially evangelical in nature and Wesleyan in theological emphasis, that The Flame exists to promote.  It is the only British devotional magazine of its kind.

Founded in 1935 by the late Maynard G. James and edited by Maynard G. James and Jack Ford as the literature arm of an international evangelistic ministry of the former Calvary Holiness Church, it is now run as an independent trust made up of five trustees drawn from various Christian backgrounds.  It is non-denominational and apolitical.
